COUNTER CHILD LABOUR SCENARIO

Child labour is one of the social deciese we are facing with. Above 1.2 crore children in the country are still working in hazardous industries including domestic sector, hotels, dhabas etc. Jyoti Setiya, Vice Chairperson of Central Advisory Board on Child Labour, Ministry of Labour and Employment said that the Center had allotted Rs. 3773 Crores in the Eleventh Plan to eradicate Child Labour. Uthar Pradesh is on top in case of child labour with 19 lakh child labourers followed by Andhra Pradesh with 13.63.

A comprehensive study is required.
A comprehensive study about the various impact of child labour in the society is required. Even though child labour is a negative index in macro economy, it has some positive impact in micro economy. We cannot forget about the small income earned by a child labourer for his family. In most of the cases children are forced to industry because of their family debts translated from the previous generation. So we need to address this serious problem first. It doesn’t means that child labour is an allowable one. We should eradicate child labour from the society but at the same time we should address the imbalance of this eradication also. The ambitious projects like NCLP (National Child Labour Project) should be planned in such manner to address this micro economic impact of child labour.

Social audit of schemes
The schemes for the eradication of child labour should be transparent and they should enjoy people’s participation at the implementation level. The various sections of the society like politicians, police, educationists and others can play a vital role in this area. Introduction of social audit on the performance of various schemes will bring better result.

Local administration's attitude
The attitude of local administrations is very important. They should co ordinate the implementation of various schemes in participation of educationists, social workers, industrialists etc. LSGs have greater responsibility in eradicating child labour from our society.
